Adventures in Bicol University Graduate School

A Week of Challenges and Discoveries

Welcome to my blog, where I'll be sharing the exciting events that unfolded during my first week at Bicol University Graduate School. From unexpected encounters to important tasks, it was a whirlwind of experiences that left me eager to dive deeper into my journey as a student at this renowned institution.

A Vibrant Charter Day Parade

The sun was shining brightly as my colleagues and I stepped foot on the bustling campus of Bicol University Graduate School. It was no ordinary day; the entire university was in high spirits, celebrating its Charter Day. As we gathered in the office, my fellow interns Ashney, Ezra, Pili, and I were assigned different responsibilities.

Ashney and I were entrusted with the vital task of sending letters to every department within the main building. Meanwhile, Ezra and Pili were designated as the proud flag bearers of the Bicol University Graduate School during the grand parade. It was a sight to behold as the faculty members and students lined up to join the procession.

Unexpected Encounters and Delivering Letters

As the morning progressed, some faculty members were unable to participate in the parade and stayed behind in the office. It was during this time that Ashney and I met Sir John Rey, a graduating student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. Engaging in lively conversations about our academic pursuits and future aspirations, we forged a connection that would blossom into a valuable friendship.

After our memorable encounter, Ashney and I embarked on our mission to deliver the letters. Campus buildings teemed with energy as we made our way through the bustling corridors, ensuring each department received their correspondence promptly. By the time we finished, our legs were weary but our hearts were filled with a sense of accomplishment.

A Well-Deserved Break at CS Canteen

With the letters delivered, Ashney and I decided to take a well-deserved break at the CS Canteen. Amidst the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the cheerful chatter of students, we recounted our morning adventures. It was a chance to rejuvenate ourselves before tackling the tasks that awaited us in the afternoon.

Seeking Documents and Reunions

Our next stop was the BUGS (Bicol University Graduate School) office, where Sir John Rey approached us with a request. He needed our assistance in locating important documents belonging to Dr. Mary Jane B. MascariƱas, a highly respected figure in the institution. We gladly accepted the challenge, determined to showcase our resourcefulness and dedication.

As we delved into the task at hand, Ezra and Pili, having completed their role in the parade, joined us in the office. Their arrival was accompanied by a flurry of complaints about the scorching afternoon heat at the Albay Astrodome. Their decision to retreat to the office marked a joyful reunion for our tight-knit team.

Sorting and Scanning Documents

The following day, our focus shifted towards sorting and scanning the documents of the students in the Bicol University Graduate School. Ezra, Ashney, and I took charge of this extensive task, while Pili and Kian provided support by assisting us at the table.

Determined to make the most of our time, Ezra and I worked diligently to organize the papers, carefully categorizing them for efficient scanning. Meanwhile, Ashney skillfully operated the scanning equipment, ensuring each document was digitized accurately. The day passed swiftly as we immersed ourselves in the world of paperwork, recognizing the importance of our efforts in maintaining an efficient administrative system.

New Tasks and Shelves Cleanup

Friday arrived, and with it came a fresh set of assignments from our mentor, Dr. Roldan Cabiles. My task for the day involved removing old documents from the storage shelves and giving them a thorough cleaning. It was a laborious endeavor that required patience and attention to detail.

Donning a double mask to protect myself from the dust that triggered my asthma, I maneuvered the heavy file organizer with caution. Every 20 minutes, I allowed myself a short break to recuperate before resuming my efforts. The enormity of the task was evident as I contemplated the sheer size of the shelves, realizing it would take me several days to complete the cleanup.

Lending a Helping Hand and Teamwork

Despite the demanding nature of my assignment, I couldn't help but notice Ashney's ongoing task of sorting and scanning the remaining documents. Driven by a shared sense of camaraderie, I decided to lend a hand to lighten her workload. Together, we sifted through piles of papers, swiftly sorting and scanning, determined to finish before the end of the day.

As the clock ticked towards 5 PM, signaling the conclusion of the workweek, we celebrated our small victories. The office buzzed with the energy of accomplishment, knowing that we had made progress in our respective tasks, no matter how arduous they seemed.

My first week at Bicol University Graduate School had been an adventure filled with unexpected encounters, challenging assignments, and teamwork. From the excitement of the Charter Day parade to the meticulousness of document management, each day presented its own set of trials and triumphs. As I bid farewell to Friday, I couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation for the weeks to come, eagerly looking forward to the lessons, connections, and growth that awaited me in this academic journey at Bicol University Graduate School.
